The Browns continue to build up their defense.
We completed the first round of the DBN Community Mock Draft! We are also doing several “use your imagination” picks coming for the Browns at No. 59, No. 89, and No. 91 to finish things off. So…(fast forwards)…
With the 59th pick of the 2021 DBN Community NFL Mock Draft, the Cleveland Browns select…
Kelvin Joseph, CB, Kentucky
The selection and write-up were made by ProfessorBrowns:
With LB being filled in round 1, the Browns are able to take the BPA at a few positions; Defensive Tackle, Edge, Wide Receiver, and CB are probably the most significant areas of need. It is tricky to prognosticate the first 26 picks in round 2, and not being unrealistically orange and brown optimistic, I had to rule out players who will likely be gone at 59 (Elijah Moore-WR, Levi Onwuzrkie-DT, Ronnie Perkins-DE, Joseph Ossai-DE, Greg Rousseau-DE).
The Analytically-driven Browns will take advantage of a player who slides at the aforementioned positions. In this situation, the Browns take a versatile defensive back from the SEC, Kelvin Joseph, CB, Kentucky. Edge and DT (not if Richardson returns, hopefully) may be bigger needs, but the injury questions in the secondary make outside corner a need, and Joseph can be a starter day 1, and there should be receivers available in the third. This defense needs studs in the secondary and just got one.
Pokorny: “My internal tussle with the Browns selecting a cornerback is, ‘Where does he fit in?’ To me, it implies that we’re sending Greedy Williams to the bench, which in that case, how will you ever know what you have in him? But on the same token, do we want to find out that Williams can’t come back, and then we’re stuck with a big hole at cornerback? I might lean toward focusing on the DL as early as possible.”
The Cleveland Browns are up next, fast-forwarding to No. 89, led by Slaytanic Brownie.
