The Patriots add a receiver after the departure of Julian Edelman.
With the 15th pick of the 2021 DBN Community NFL Mock Draft, the New England Patriots select…
Jaylen Waddle, WR, Alabama
The selection and write-up were made by Bo154033:
The Patriots lack of playmakers on offense was never more apparent than last season. Cam Newton failed to carry an offense built of spare parts like his predecessor had and now the Pats have their highest draft pick in long time. Obviously, Newton left a lot to be desired with his play last year but with the 4 top QBs off the board I feel WR is the next biggest need. I honestly don’t think you can go wrong with any of the top 3 wideouts this year.
If I had to rank them I’d have Waddle behind Chase but again all great prospects. What they get with Waddle is big play potential every time he touches the ball. New England did get some good offensive pieces during free agency but no one that can really stretch the field. Jaylen Waddle would give the Pats a home run threat that they’ve lacked for years and Josh McDaniels a great chess piece to move around on offense.
Pokorny: “The Patriots could take a quarterback, but I think it’s still very much up-in-the-air what direction they take to determine success after Tom Brady. New England loaded up on players in free agency, so Waddle gets them another weapon for Cam Newton to do more than just try to run the ball all game.”
