The Cleveland Browns may have to invest back into the wide receiver position in NFL free agency after trading away Amari Cooper.
In a disappointing 3-14 season, one of the few bright spots was the breakout of younger receivers. Specifically, Jerry Jeudy emerged and went for a franchise-record 90 receptions after the Browns acquired him for two-day three picks in 2024 and gave him a three-year, $52.5 million extension. Second-year wideout Cedric Tillman also had a strong stretch of games before suffering a concussion that kept him out of the last seven games.
With Elijah Moore set to hit free agency, the Browns have a starting role to fill this offseason. Tillman and Jeudy both operate primarily from the outside, creating a need for someone who can produce from the slot. Cleveland currently owns four top-100 picks in the upcoming draft, making it very possible that they try to find a starter in the rookie class.
The upcoming receiver market in free agency has some big names but most won’t fit the offense well enough to justify their price tag. Recently, the Rams revealed that they will move Cooper Kupp this offseason. Although Los Angeles made it seem like they would move him somewhere that had success in 2024, the Browns should be interested if possible due to his guarantees ending after 2025 and his dominance from the slot.
While adding a receiver isn’t the top priority of the upcoming offseason, it will certainly need to be addressed in some regard. The Browns probably won’t be massive spenders who go after the likes of Tee Higgins or Chris Godwin, but they can still find guys who can have an impact at a lower cost. In this article, I go through three receivers who might make sense for the Browns to add in free agency.
