The Cleveland Browns lost their backup tight end Harrison Bryant to the Las Vegas Raiders. The team must look toward the draft when replacing Harrison Bryant. The Browns signed Giovanni Ricci to play as their fullback and third tight end. His role will be primarily as a blocker.
The Browns have four tight ends on their roster: David Njoku, Jordan Akins, Zaire Mitchell-Paden, and Ricci. Outside of Njoku, the Browns are not rostering a traditional Y tight end. Akins and Mitchell-Paden are big-bodied, receiving threats that do not block well. Ricci is a blocking specialist.
The Browns need to find a tight end that can complement Njoku in the draft. That player needs to be able to block on the line of scrimmage and be an adequate receiving threat. The low bar means the Browns can find that player later in the draft.
The tight end class is relatively deep in this year’s draft. College football legend Brock Bowers leads the class out of the University of Georgia. The class is bolstered by a group of Big Ten tight ends with experience playing on the line of scrimmage. The Browns will have a healthy amount of options to draft this year.
Here are five tight ends I think the Browns could target later in the draft.
