Franchise star defensive end Myles Garrett has requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns, so that may be another need the team has to address in the 2025 NFL draft.
Garrett began soft-launching the trade request after January’s final Browns game. The Browns front office have emphatically rejected moving him all off-season. The trade request adds another fire under the seat of general manager Andrew Berry. Berry will be drafting for his job this off-season.
There’s no way a team can draft a replacement for an NFL Defensive Player of the Year award winner in his prime. They’re far too talented and impactful to find a replacement, even at the top of the draft.
The best-case scenario is replicating the Los Angeles Rams method. They used their first and second-round pick on college teammates Jared Verse and Brenden Fiske to replace Aaron Donald this offseason. The two rookies had a lot of success rushing the passer this season. Verse was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.
The defensive end class is deep in this draft. A lot of top talent will trickle down to the later rounds. The Browns could find a replacement for Garrett or a running mate for him. Here are five defensive ends the Browns should pursue in the draft.
