5 Teams That Could Draft Shedeur Sanders After Catastrophic Fall

April 26, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Shedeur Sanders Draft

Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders entered the 2025 NFL Draft as one of the top quarterbacks in a weak class, but that wasn’t enough to earn him Day 1 draft capital. 32 players saw their future change for the better last night, but Sanders remains available for any team looking for a potential franchise quarterback.

As evidenced by his current situation, Sanders is far from a perfect prospect and carries plenty of question marks. However, quarterback is the most important position in football, and he has the raw potential to lead a franchise for years to come. He should be selected early on Day 2, and these five teams could roll the dice on the polarizing prospect.

5 Teams That Could Draft Shedeur Sanders

Las Vegas Raiders

Early in the draft process, most teams believed the Las Vegas Raiders could target Shedeur Sanders. That may ultimately come true, but not in the way anyone envisioned at the time. Minority owner Tom Brady has an established rapport with Sanders, and he could vouch for the Colorado product. Geno Smith is the short-term answer for this team, but the former Seahawk is entering his age-35 season and is closer to the end of his career than the beginning.

New Orleans Saints

Derek Carr and the New Orleans Saints are not on the best of terms. Even if the quarterback returns for the 2025 season, it’s safe to assume he won’t be back in 2026. Using a first-round pick on Shedeur Sanders would have been a bad move, but he’s a great choice in the second round of the draft. The Colorado product will face no immediate pressure to start, and head coach Kellen Moore can use the 2025 season to evaluate him on the sidelines and see if he deserves a starting job in 2026.

Cleveland Browns

If the Cleveland Browns were going to draft Shedeur Sanders, they probably would have done it yesterday. The team currently holds the first pick in the second round, and they could have easily traded that selection to the Kansas City Chiefs to land Sanders in the first round and get the highly coveted fifth-year option on his contract. However, even though that didn’t happen, this team still needs help at the quarterback position, and Sanders is the best option left on the board.

Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts have a reasonably talented roster held back by serious questions at the game’s most important position. Anthony Richardson has not done much to inspire confidence through his first two years in the league, and veteran Daniel Jones is not a starting-caliber quarterback. Shedeur Sanders comes with his own set of flaws, but he’d be a no-brainer draft pick if he’s still on the board in the middle of the second.

Seattle Seahawks

Following his magical 2024 season with the Minnesota Vikings, Sam Darnold earned a massive raise with the Seattle Seahawks. While he technically signed a three-year, $100.5 million contract, it’s effectively a one-year deal with no guaranteed money beyond the 2025 season. If Darnold regresses to his pre-Vikings form, Shedeur Sanders could see the field as early as 2026. Seattle has two second-round picks, so don’t be surprised if they use one of them on the Colorado product.
