Bengals, Giants Could Connect On Blockbuster Trade?

September 15, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

It’s only about to be Week 3 in the NFL, but it’s been a brutal season for the Cincinnati Bengals, as they may trade for quarterback Jameis Winston. According to the breaking news, the expectation is that the Bengals will be without star quarterback, Joe Burrow, for several weeks to three months, depending on his MRI to his toe injury he suffered despite their win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. It’s a huge blow to the plans for the Bengals after extending wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins while finding a way to extend Trey Hendrickson for at least a year. If the MRI comes out that he needs surgery, then this means they should target Jameis Winston, who is still arguably an adequate quarterback in the league.

Originally selected in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft, the former Florida State product battled it out for the starting quarterback position in New York with veteran Russell Wilson and rookie Jaxson Dart. Since Winston is listed as the third-string signal-caller on the depth chart, the Giants might be willing to trade the former Tampa Bay Buccaneer for a needy quarterback team, which includes the Bengals. Winston is no longer the same franchise quarterback who set records and led the league in passing yards during his time with the Buccaneers, but he could give the Bengals a fighting chance. There’s no way Winston is getting this type of opportunity in New York, as Dart is the future of the Giants, so here are three other possible suitors for the former Saint and Brown.

Cleveland Browns offensive tackle Jack Conklin (78) blocks Baltimore Ravens linebacker Tavius Robinson (95) as quarterback Jameis Winston (5) prepares to throw a pass Sunday, Oct. 27, 2024, in Cleveland, Ohio.

Other Possible Suitors

Carolina Panthers

Even though quarterback Bryce Young did show signs of improvement, this is a situation that the Carolina Panthers must monitor. They can’t really depend on veteran Andy Dalton if they decide to bench Young again if they lose at least three more games straight. Dalton is nothing more than a bridge that is a little older, and he didn’t have the best performance in the preseason. If anyone can save the season for the Panthers, it’s Jameis Winston.

He has a ton of momentum in his stride, and if he joins another team that needs a quarterback, he should be able to put the Panthers in the best position to win. Winston isn’t the same former Buccaneer prime-time type of signal-caller, but his competitiveness in looking to secure some type of role in New York shows that he’s hungry for an opportunity.

Cleveland Browns

Meanwhile, it’s going to be an interesting quarterback situation here, like it’s always been since Baker Mayfield left the Browns. Head Coach Kevin Stefanski doesn’t plan to switch quarterbacks, but when you have Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders waiting, they should give them a shot for a regular-season game. However, they could trade for an adequate veteran, and Winston could be coming back to Cleveland to possibly save the Browns.

Indianapolis Colts

Former New York Giant quarterback Daniel Jones is finally balling with a new team. While he has all of the momentum, no one should put it past the Colts if they end up trading Anthony Richardson at some point. If they do, they will need another viable signal-caller, and Winston could fit into their situation.
