This morning, the Cleveland Browns made a trade with the Houston Texans to acquire RT Tytus Howard. In exchange, the team will give up a 5th-round pick. Next, Howard will get a three-year extension worth 63 million dollars.
With recent free agency and other moves, the Browns were certainly desperate to add more to the offensive line. No, it’s not the most exciting part of a team, but it can make a difference, especially in helping to block for a quarterback and opening holes for a running back as well.
Howard is 29 years old and played his first six seasons with the Texans (93 total games played). He is 6’5, 322 pounds and was out of Alabama. According to CBS, Howard allowed pressure on just 3.4% of snaps last season, which marked a career best.
This move is likely to replace Jack Conklin, a Browns free agent, with all indications pointing to him moving on to a different team this offseason.
Let’s hope Howard is able to maintain that percentage of allowed pressure this upcoming season with the Browns and beyond. This could turn out to be a very crucial move in this year and beyond.
