Breaking: Former Browns Third Rounder Named Cut Candidate; 4 Potential Fits

August 18, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

After being unaware of a suspension, Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi could be a cut candidate right before the 2025 regular season. According to reports, the Bills will likely move on from the veteran due to an impending suspension that will come in Week 1 of the 2025 regular season, which is something the team didn’t have any idea about. It’s a huge blow already to Buffalo’s defense either way, since Ogunjobi will be away from the team for six regular games, which they can’t afford when they’re trying to win as many games early for a postseason push. Ogunjobi isn’t the only defensive lineman that is facing a PED suspension, but Michael Hoecht is also in the same boat.

While it makes sense that the Bills could move on, it will be rare for the team to release before stepping on the field. However, Ogunjobi is reportedly having a quiet training camp, and if that’s the case, it might be best for both sides to agree on a release. Despite that, it might not be worth the time, energy or money to keep a player on the 53-man roster anyway if others like Ed Oliver and DaQuan Jones could emerge as capable defensive linemen. It’s hard to see where he ends up from here, but these four contenders could reach out to him on a low-stakes contract if they’re in a position where they’re inching closer to postseason contention after Ogunjobi’s suspension is over.

Best Possible Destinations

Los Angeles Chargers

This fit would make a lot of sense if the Los Angeles Chargers’ offense outperforms their defense weekly. After just signing Da’Shawn Hand to improve the trench unit, they can’t afford to lean on Teair Tart when he doesn’t have Poona Ford on the team anymore. Ogunjobi has a chance to make things right in Los Angeles and could play just as good as Ford did last year, so the Chargers should keep tabs on him if he becomes available in free agency.

Carolina Panthers

Meanwhile, the Carolina Panthers might slowly creep up as postseason contenders due to their improvement in their defense this offseason. However, quarterback Bryce Young will have to avoid turning the ball over, and he has to put them in good spots to get a score on each drive. All the Panthers have to do is stop the offense, and they could do that after signing Bobby Brown and Tershawn Wharton as two reliable defensive linemen who can replicate the same noise as Derrick Brown. Ogunjobi should be icing on the cake for this defense to allow not just one defensive tackle, but two that can chase after the quarterback all season long.

Dallas Cowboys

Besides Osa Odighizuwa, the Dallas Cowboys could use one last upgrade in the trenches unit. Solomon Thomas has a chance to shine, but no one should expect that to happen. Ogunjobi is the better fit, and Jerry Jones loves to give players a second chance despite offseason legal trouble or off-field issues, so this signing would be no surprise.

Washington Commanders

The Washington Commanders arguably signed one of the worst free agents this offseason in Javon Kinlaw. He hasn’t done much in recent memory, but the team brought him in due to ties to Adam Peters. With Daron Payne, probably the best defensive tackle, Ogunjobi would be the perfect veteran fit since the Commanders want an old-school roster anyway to push for a Super Bowl.
