Browns, Jagaurs trade has led to some strong reactions as Travis Hunter and Mason Graham get their new homes
The Cleveland Browns were in a perfect position Thursday night to select an impact player with the No. 2 overall selection of the 2025 NFL Draft.
That would have been too easy, apparently, which might help explain why general manager Andrew Berry worked a deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars to move down to the No. 5 overall selection, while also pocketing another selection in the second round (No. 36) and Jacksonville’s first-round selection in 2026.
The trade gives Cleveland a lot of selections in the 2025 NFL draft, but led to them passing on WR/CB Travis Hunter and, later, selecting DT Mason Graham.

It might be disappointing that the Browns will not have Colorado WR/CB Travis Hunter on the roster, but it is not a bad haul, all things considered. Now it is up to Berry to make it count.
A lot of value in the deal:
The Browns will receive 5,512 points on the Fitzgerald-Spielberger draft chart. The Jaguars will gain 3,610 points. The 1,902 point difference is worth about the the 8th overall pick in the draft. A massive haul for the #Browns

Beyond that, a lot of other reactions to the trade:
Nice haul. Now let’s get some playmakers!!

Not everyone is fully on board with the trade, however.

Traded down past the only elite prospects in this draft. After not having a first rounder for the last 3 years. Absolutely ridiculous ask of this fanbase.

The trade also triggered memories for those who can’t let go of the past.
This is a repeat of the 2009 Browns nightmare. https://t.co/IwH4nx8g1I

Could the trade down have been part of the plan all along?
This has been a rebuild all along (except for giving Myles Garrett 160 million reasons to stop saying mean things about them.)

Or done out of necessity after the Deshaun Watson trade emptied the cupboard?
League source on why the #Browns made the trade with the #Jags:
“Because….need multiple players. Traded three 1’s for Deshaun Watson remember?”

Perhaps the deal was done with an eye on the 2026 draft?
Browns acquired assets to get their QB in 2026

I understand, from the Browns perspective, the idea of loading up on 2026 picks and preparing to nail the quarterback selection that is inevitable next offseason.
With that said: I would never, ever, ever want to be the team that traded out of the Travis Hunter pick.

Losing out on Hunter took some of the air out of the draft party at Huntington Bank Field.
A live reaction from The Browns Draft party at Huntington Bank Field when the Jaguars selected Travis Hunter after Andrew Berry traded away the 2nd overall pick!

Let’s close this out with a reaction from the guy who chose Rob Chudzinski over Andy Reid as head coach of the Browns and selected Barkevious Mingo with the No. 6 overall selection.
More years of failure for Jags fans and hope for Browns.
