Browns Quarterback Performance Could Signal Trade?

August 10, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

After shining in his preseason debut this week, the Cleveland Browns could trade quarterback Shedeur Sanders before the 2025 campaign. Sanders put on a spectacular performance that puts other signal callers on the roster on notice to step up when they have their chance. Even though it looks like the Browns might stick with Sanders moving forward, there is still plenty of time for quarterbacks like Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel and Joe Flacco to work as the starter. The reality is that the Browns will likely release or trade at least one quarterback, as they have a wealth of talent that another team could utilize.

Unfortunately, the team has been allergic to making the right decision for the offensive scheme. This means it shouldn’t be surprising if the Browns decide to trade Sanders to a quarterback-needy team or to become a reliable backup elsewhere. Originally selected out of Colorado, even if Sanders decides to put on a clinic for the rest of the preseason, they could still consider sending him to another team. It’s unusual for an NFL roster to give away its draft pick to another roster early in its career.

Sanders could continue to thrive in this best situation with these five teams, and the Browns should consider what type of value the rookie quarterback has. Never say never.

Shedeur Sanders Performance Could Signal Trade? – 5 Possible Fits

Potential Next Teams

Carolina Panthers

Even though the Carolina Panthers are moving forward with quarterback Bryce Young as their signal-caller, this could always change if he can’t stay consistent. There is a lot of hype, especially when the Panthers have the right offensive weapons for Young to thrive, but winning is what matters for the team this upcoming season. They could call up for another option in the league, and someone like Sanders could bring out the best in not only a new scenery, but a culture that is looking for change. Sanders won’t be Cam Newton 2.0 to start, but he has a similar skillset and running abilities to give fans something to look forward to.

New Orleans Saints

Meanwhile, the New Orleans Saints are in dire need of a fresh start, as Tyler Shough and Spencer Rattler haven’t been the most promising quarterback unit the team was expecting. The Saints, like many NFL teams, passed on the chance of getting Sanders, and this could be their chance to make things right. If General Manager Mickey Loomis swallows his pride and rebuilds a capable roster that contains Shedeur Sanders, the Saints should have a solid starter for the first time since the Drew Brees era.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers don’t need a quarterback, but the more depth, the better it would be for Justin Herbert. Draft bust Trey Lance finally thrived in his first preseason game with the Chargers, and the same could happen for Sanders if he joins. Sanders won’t start, but he could use this as a launchpad to start for a future team.

Dallas Cowboys

However, the Dallas Cowboys should eye another quarterback if Dak Prescott is still his old self. Joe Milton is a solid starter one day, but they could use the competition if they’re one day going to be moving forward without Prescott. Sanders was a favorable target for Dallas, and the dream might come true in Dallas.

Baltimore Ravens

Just like the Chargers, they don’t need a quarterback. However, Cooper Rush’s first preseason wasn’t the best, so they must get a solid backup for Lamar Jackson. Sanders isn’t taking Jackson’s job, but he could learn from him.
