Sal Cannella will look to turn his UFL production into a roster spot in Cleveland.

The Cleveland Browns reportedly made a move on Thursday to bolster the tight end position with the addition of Sal Cannella.

The six-foot-4 and 230-pound Cannella spent the spring with the Arlington Renegades of the UFL, earning a spot on the All-UFL Team after finishing the campaign with 44 receptions (second most in the league), 474 receiving yards (sixth best), and one receiving touchdown.

That is according to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, who shared the news on social media.

Cannella spent three seasons with the Renegades, pulling in 139 receptions for 1,386 yards and seven touchdowns.

Not drafted after a college career that began at Scottsdale Community College, followed by three seasons at Auburn, Cannella has spent time on the practice squads of the Miami Dolphins, Green Bay Packers, Seattle Seahawks, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but has yet to play in an NFL regular-season game.

In Cleveland, Cannella will have an opportunity to claim the third tight end spot behind veteran David Njoku and rookie Harold Fannin Jr.

The competition for the spot is not exactly fierce as Cannella will be vying for playing time with Tre’ McKitty (16 career receptions for 117 yards with the Los Angeles Chargers from 2021 to 2023), Brenden Bates (no career stats after spending time with the New York Jets and Browns in 2024), and Blake Whiteheart (six career receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown while spending time with the Arizona Cardinals and Browns between 2023 and 2024).

Cannella has demonstrated his determination to make an NFL roster, and if he can replicate some of the production he showed in the UFL, he may finally achieve that goal with the Browns this fall.
