The Cleveland Browns acquired their new franchise quarterback in March, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t keeping an eye on some others.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Browns are hosting Brown University quarterback E.J. Perry on a pre-draft visit today. Perry reportedly visited the Patriots on Wednesday.

A two-time first-team All-Ivy performer, Perry began his career at Boston College before transferring to Brown following the 2018 season.
With the Bears, he put himself on the NFL Draft radar, throwing for 5,972 yards, 45 touchdowns and 27 interceptions in two seasons. An elite athlete–he ran a 4.65 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine–Perry also rushed for 1,129 yards and 15 touchdowns at Brown.
Even if the Browns eventually trade Baker Mayfield, they are still well-stocked at QB with Deshaun Watson, Jacoby Brissett and the recently-signed Joshua Dobbs. However, they could take a chance on Perry, who might be able to help an NFL team in a Taysom Hill-esque role.
“His toughness and talent as a runner create attention, as teams might ask Perry to add a few more pounds in order to see if he can become a valuable Swiss Army Knife who’s able to help at a variety of positions, including special teams,” writes NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein.
The 2022 NFL Draft gets underway two weeks from tonight.
