Kevin Stefanski’s group of coaches may not have a lot of tough decision at the top of the Browns roster
The Cleveland Browns will have a quarterback competition as the main focus when the whole team returns for training camp in a month, but the coaches have to figure out who will make the initial 53-man roster and other big decisions. Shedeur Sanders’ recent speeding tickets will get attention with so little news, besides a new tight end, around the Browns this time of year.
Cleveland’s roster is better than currently ranked, but there is reason for concern coming off of a three-win season in 2024. Despite the struggles last year, the Browns roster doesn’t seem to have many starting positions, outside of QB, up for grabs going into training camp:
QB Competition
- Joe Flacco
- Kenny Pickett
- Dillon Gabriel
- Shedeur Sanders
At this point, everyone has an opinion on who they think should and will win the job.
TE2 vs WR3
With it being unlikely that a fullback will start for the team, the battle for the fifth offensive weapon spot will likely come down to two different positions.
- Harold Fannin Jr.
- Diontae Johnson
- Jamari Thrash
DT Fight
- Mason Graham
- Mike Hall Jr.
- Maliek Collins
- Shelby Harris
Of all the moves made this offseason, the addition of Collins in free agency is often overlooked, but he could start for the team. In many ways, the youngsters versus the veterans is the conversation here, which means we are likely to see Graham starting alongside one of the vets, but nothing will be given to the fifth overall pick.
Safety Unknown
- Ronnie Hickman
- Damontae Kazee
- Rayshawn Jenkins
- Nik Needham
Cleveland brought in three veteran safeties this offseason to try to replace Rodney McLeod and Juan Thornhill. Kazee is the only one listed on the team’s website as a free safety, but the team does not control the roster portion of the site (the NFL does). With Grant Delpit’s versatility, the Browns may not need a true free safety, but it would benefit them if they could find one. The young Hickman is likely who the coaches want to win the job, but he’ll have to prove he can handle all the responsibilities.
Who do you think wins these 4 starting jobs? Is there another position, again besides QB, that you think the starting job is up for grabs?
