Well, it’s no longer “Wacko For Flacco” in these parts. The Cleveland Browns traded quarterback Joe Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals. They will receive a 2026 sixth-round pick and in exchange, the Browns get a 2026 fifth-round pick.
This season, the Browns have gone 1-4 on the year to start. Flacco, age 40, has thrown two touchdowns compared to six interceptions. He went 93/160 and had 815 passing yards.
Clearly, it’s not as if the Bengals gave up much for this quarterback that Cleveland is giving up. The Browns are looking to move on and potentially open the door for a future of either Dillon Gabriel or Shedeur Sanders as the quarterback.
After the disastrous five games we’ve seen, it was about time that this move was made. No one wants to say a season is “over” after just five affairs but but it was and is certainly starting to look like it for the Browns.
What I find most interesting is a trade within the division in regards to this move being made. That is usually frowned upon amongst teams; however, it happened.
Next week, the Browns play in Pittsburgh against the rival Steelers as the team looks to salvage what they can for the season. It’ll be interesting to see how the team handles the quarterback situation and if they’ll stick with Gabriel at the helm or go to the Sanders Project because of recent events.
Joe Flacco has always seemed like a nice guy.
He was a great quarterback when on the Ravens back in the day and I wish him nothing but the best moving forward (except against the Browns). Sadly, it just wasn’t working on here in The Land and it was time the team moved on.
While the defense seems to be functioning in Cleveland, there is a lot of work to be done on the other side of the ball. Let’s see if any other moves are made to try and improve the offense to give this team any chance of competing. It’s going to take a lot more than just the quarterback to contend and it’s a shame that such talent on defense is being wasted.
Just watch, as a member of the Bengals, Flacco gets the opportunity to star and is an elite quarterback for their franchise and becomes elite once again despite his age. That wouldn’t surprise the fans here watching the Browns continue to struggle.
