Browns NFL Draft Live Blog
3:00 PM: The Browns have made their first selection of the day in the fifth round (No. 156 overall) and it is wide receiver Jamari Thrash, who played last season at Louisville after spending four seasons at Georgia State. We’ll have a post and much more on this surprising pick shortly.
2:47 PM: Five picks left until the Browns select and I like:
- WR Malik Washington
- WR Johnny Wilson
- TE Jaheim Bell
- WR Brendan Rice
- DE Brennan Jackson
At some point, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. has to get his name called even though his athletic traits are not very good, he has instincts. I don’t think that is until later, however.
1:52 PM: Still another 20 picks until the Browns are scheduled. A couple of names I like left for them at their next spot:
- RB Audric Estime
- DE Austin Booker
- WR Malik Washington
- WR Johnny Wilson
- TE Jaheim Bell
1:13 PM: Another Buckeye that some thought the Browns might like rejoins CJ Stroud:

1:07 PM: The Dolphins burning a third-round pick next year for a running back, Jaylen Wright, feels crazy to me given who they already have:

Wright is very good but the value just isn’t there for this team.
12:29 PM: History will be made today when Ozoemena Chukwu will announce one of the Browns’ Day 3 picks live from Nigeria.

12:24 PM: While we wait awhile the Browns’ fifth-round pick, let’s jump back to yesterday evening and go through a few of the quotes made by GM Andrew Berry on the Day 2 picks.
(On Michael Hall): “You know, with Mike, he’s really tailor-made for our attack front. He’s explosive, he’s quite quick. He can rush the passer. He’s long, and he plays, really with a very high motor. He’s really the quintessential three-technique in our defense. And for us, pass rushers will always come at a premium, especially those that can affect the pocket from inside and we think that’s something that Mike will be able to do along our front. So, we’re really excited to kind of keep him home, so to speak, and think his skillset and passion really matches perfectly for our organization.”
(On Zak Zinter): “And then with Zak, I think you guys all know that we’ll be a team that invests in the trenches, invests in the O line. Zak, we just thought, was a rock-solid all-around player his entire career at Michigan. He was really the heartbeat of their culture when we met with him throughout the pre-Draft process. You know, very smart, professional, passionate about football, and I think his blue-collar mentality will really fit well within our offensive line room.”
(It was said that Jim Schwartz was the happiest man in the room when you selected. If you could talk about how he’s going to really fit into your defensive front): “Yeah, Jim – anytime you get a pass rusher, Jim’s happy. And, you know, I think one of the hardest things to find are players that either can or you project to have the ability to affect the quarterback from inside. Because, you know, we’re in a favorable situation where you have either Myles (Garrett) or Z (Za’Darius Smith) on the outside and they really dictate the protection for the offense. That usually means in this game, you know, the interior player opposite them is going to get the one-on-one matchup with the goal. So, guys that can convert a one-on-one into pressure on a relatively consistent basis, they have great value for this scheme, but they also have great value when paired with the best defensive player in football.”
12:08 PM: We are officially underway for the final day of the NFL Draft! Remember that the draft will end around 6:20 pm ET, but the fun won’t be over — we will then jump to our annual undrafted free agent tracker. Heading into the draft, the Browns had 75 players on the roster. If they go through with their planned six draft picks, that puts them at 81 players, leaving room for 9 undrafted free agents tonight.
10:55 AM: Remember when the Browns sent a package of draft picks, including three first-rounders to the Houston Texans for quarterback Deshaun Watson? Of course you do!
We can now mark that trade “paid in full” as the Texans used the final draft pick they acquired from the Browns on Friday night. Read all the details about how the Texans used the picks in our latest story on the Watson trade.
10:26 AM: Next Gen Stats has the Top 5 prospects available heading into Day 3. That is fun to look at, but it also seems unlikely that the Browns will be able to land any of them since their first pick isn’t until mid-way through the fifth round.
Who are the best available prospects entering Day 3 according to the Next Gen Stats NFL Draft Model?
1) Troy Franklin WR, Oregon
2) Ja’Tavion Sanders TE, Texas
3) Devontez Walker WR, North Carolina
4) Malik Washington WR, Virginia
5) Christian Mahogany OG, BC#NFLDraft pic.twitter.com/DELuczRJXG— Next Gen Stats (@NextGenStats) April 27, 2024
