Cleveland Browns Training Camp 2025: WR Preview, Part 1 – Two starters, and then what?

What do the Browns have after Jerry Jeudy and Cedric Tillman?

The next position we’re looking at in our Cleveland Browns training camp preview is wide receiver.

1. Jerry Jeudy – Starting WR

Height: 6-1 | Weight: 195 lbs | Age: 26
Experience: 6 years | College: Alabama

The year 2024 was a terrible one for your Cleveland Browns, but one of the bright spots was the performance of WR Jerry Jeudy. Cleveland acquired him from the Broncos in exchange for fifth- and sixth-round picks, and then signed him to a three-year contract extension.

Jeudy had shown to be a solid receiver in Denver, but it was still somewhat of a gamble, since he had never crossed the 1,000-yard mark and dealt with some bad quarterback situations. He dealt with perhaps an even worse quarterback situation in his first year in Cleveland, but still thrived as the team’s go-to target. He played in every game, logging 90 catches for 1,229 yards and 4 touchdowns. His finest performance came against his former team on Monday Night Football, as he caught 9 passes for 235 yards and 1 touchdown. I was at that game, and I have never seen a receiver dominate and beat his man so consistently in a game before. There were a couple of misses that could have easily made that a 300-yard performance.

Much of Jeudy’s success came in games that Jameis Winston started, since he was really the team’s only capable quarterback. The only downside I saw were a couple of dropped passes late in the season, but I can overlook that. He made us forget about Amari Cooper, and gives the team a No. 1 receiver for the next few years.

Final Roster Odds: 100%

2. Cedric Tillman – Starting WR

Height: 6-3 | Weight: 215 lbs | Age: 25
Experience: 3 years | College: Tennessee

As it we needed another statistical reason for evidence of why Deshaun Watson was terrible, look no further than Cedric Tillman. In the first 6 weeks of the season, Tillman had a total of 3 catches for 9 yards. During the team’s Week 7 game in which DTR replaced the injured Watson, he had 8 catches for 81 yards.

The following week against the Ravens, he broke out with 7 catches for 99 yards and 2 touchdowns. The production continued in subsequent weeks against the Chargers and Saints, but then he suffered a concussion in Week 12 against the Steelers. It seemed like there would be enough time for him to return before the end of the season, but you never know with concussions: he never cleared the protocol, ending his promising season.

I hope the Browns find a QB

Nonetheless, it boosted Tillman’s stock significantly, to where he should be viewed as the team’s obvious favorite to win the No. 2 receiving job and start alongside Jeudy. Many are pegging Tillman to be one of the league’s breakout players in 2025.

Final Roster Odds: 100%

3. David Bell – Slot WR

This is a make or break season for David Bell, not just with the Browns, but for his NFL career. Bell is entering the final year of his rookie contract after being a third-round pick in 2022. He caught 24 passes for 214 yards as a rookie, and had 14 catches for 167 yards and 3 touchdowns in 2023. After a good training camp in 2024, he got off to a hot start in the team’s Week 2 game by catching 3 passes for 27 yards. Sadly, that third catch saw him dislocate his hip, requiring season-ending surgery.

There have not been many updates regarding Bell’s recovery this offseason, other than the fact that he didn’t appear to be practicing in mandatory minicamp. However, another report had said that Deshaun Watson — who is doing his own rehab — was throwing inside this offseason with Jeudy and Bell. My assumption is that Bell will be ready-to-go for training camp to compete for the slot receive role.

I think Bell can be a solid and smooth receiver with good hands, similar to how Rashard Higgins once was. Although there isn’t a ton of competition after the first two receivers, Bell is by no means a lock for the role. It could come down to the likes of him, Michael Woods, and Diontae Johnson to see who replaces the role formerly held by Elijah Moore.

Final Roster Odds: 60%

4. Michael Woods Jr – Backup WR

Height: 6-1 | Weight: 204 lbs | Age: 25
Experience: 3 years | College: Oklahoma

Michael Woods is another guy who has been bitten by the injury bug. After seeing limited action as a rookie in 2022, he missed the entire 2023 season. Last year, he had a solid training camp and closed out the preseason with a two-touchdown performance. During the regular season, he actually started two games for Cleveland, hauling in 7 passes for 65 yards.

The opportunities will be plentiful for the likes of Woods and other receivers who will be in Part 2 of our preview to shine in training camp, as the backup receiver spots are one of the biggest things to keep an eye on in camp — not just the No. 3 role, but the No. 4 and No. 5 spots.

Final Roster Odds: 50%
