Running back, D’Ernest Johnson is coming back to Cleveland. The 26-year-old agrees to a one-year contract with the Cleveland Browns worth $2.43 million. Johnson will get $900,000 guaranteed.
It’s a good signing for the Browns. Johnson stepped up for this team when they needed it the most. When running backs Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt went down, the Browns looked for someone to answer the bell. That’s when D’Ernest Johnson came to the rescue. Johnson rushed for 534 yards and scored three touchdowns last season. In addition, he caught 19 passes for 137 yards.
The Browns finished the 2021 season with the fourth-most rushing yards of any team with 2,471 yards, behind the Baltimore Ravens, Indianapolis Colts and Philadelphia Eagles.
Not bad for a guy that went undrafted. Johnson became a fan favorite in the city of Cleveland. They love him and they can’t wait to see what he can produce in the new season. Johnson is a workaholic and will do anything to help his team to win. Athletes who go undrafted have some of the most remarkable stories. It’s not easy because you have to put in the amount of work and have a lot of heart. This game is about having heart and determination. I’m seeing it from Johnson. With him signing with the Browns, will he get more opportunities?
It will be a challenge in a good way and will begin in the preseason. The man is hungry and I see much potential if he is used right. Browns will need to figure out how to capitalize on this situation because he is young and last season, he showed you what he could do on the field. One thing is for sure is that the Browns have a triple threat in the backfield, which can put a lot of pressure on the defense. Therefore, the Browns should feel great about their depth in the backfield.
The days of the Cleveland Browns aiming for the Super Bowl run is not far away. They are slowly putting the right pieces at each position, but it will mainly come down to the quarterback position and durability. Browns disappointedly missed the playoffs last season, but they will try to write a different script for this upcoming season. Who knows? Johnson might prove to everyone that the 2021 season wasn’t a fluke.
