After a hectic offseason, it appears that the Browns roster is close to finalized. Aside from DE Jadaveon Clowney, it seems like the Browns are no longer in pursuit of any notable free agents. Improving at nearly every position of need, the Browns should feel satisfied with how their offseason went.
After letting wide receiver Jarvis Landry walk at the start of free agency, rumors of him re-signing to join new quarterback Deshaun Watson started to swirl. Of course, that excited Browns fans everywhere. Joining the Browns in 2018, Landry is widely credited with changing the culture in Cleveland. The former LSU Tiger gave it his all for the Browns and fans recognize him as one of the key pieces of the Browns’ rebirth.
However, after trading for former Cowboys star Amari Cooper and drafting Purdue alum David Bell, it is reported that the Browns no longer have interest in bringing Jarvis Landry back home to Cleveland. Jarvis would only benefit this team as a veteran, but it may be the right move for the Browns to move on. As sad as that may be to hear, there are still a lot of good things to be happy about in the new receiving core.
This group of receivers looks nice on paper, yet is very unproven aside from Amari Cooper. From second-year speedster Anthony Schwartz to rookies David Bell and Michael Woods II, there isn’t much experience in the receiving core. The most interesting person on the team this year is Donovan Peoples-Jones. The former sixth-round pick from Michigan has shown loads of potential, including the astounding game-winning touchdown against the Bengals a couple of years back. DPJ undoubtedly has the athleticism and speed to take his game to the next level. It is very likely that with Watson running the offense, Peoples-Jones could take the long-awaited leap into becoming a star receiver for this team.
After all of the madness, it is time to settle down and wait for the season to officially kick off. The expectations are high this year with new QB Deshaun Watson, granted he plays, now running things in The Land. Even though moving on from beloved Jarvis Landry may be tough for some fans, this season should definitely be one to look forward to.
