How QB Tyler Huntley’s Arrival Affects Browns’ Depth Chart

August 6, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

The Cleveland Browns made things even more precarious for their QBs with the addition of a fifth QB, Tyler ‘Snoop’ Huntley, to their already crowded QB room. Living up to their ‘QB carousel’ reputation, the Browns were already juggling four QBs, all vying for a top depth chart position and a starting role this season.

Rookies Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel have garnered all the buzz in Berea for their efforts in the training camp. However, veteran Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett have the experience to win over Kevin Stefanski. They could snatch the starting role from under the rookies’ noses.

Despite suffering a hamstring injury a few days back, Pickett is still resolute on becoming QB1. So are Flacco, Gabriel, and Sanders. The only thing different now is that they might not be the only ones.

Cleveland Browns Sign QB Tyler Huntley

It is safe to say that the Browns’ QB room is suffering due to the insane competition. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that both Pickett and Gabriel are fighting through a hamstring injury, while Sanders is dealing with a sore shoulder. Stefanski needed another cannon arm he could count on in a situation like this, and thus, “Snoop” Huntley entered.

Sources: Browns are signing QB Tyler “Snoop” Huntley, who spent part of last season with Cleveland. With Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel nursing hamstring injuries, and Shedeur Sanders having a sore shoulder, the Browns need another arm. Interestingly, the QB comes in with a good-looking resume, boasting four seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, followed by a year with the Miami Dolphins. During his time with both teams, QB Huntley proved himself to be a true weapon on the ground, finishing off with 829 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions last season.

What’s more intriguing is his history with the Cleveland Browns. Before signing with the Dolphins in 2024, Huntley was briefly a part of the Browns’ practice squad. He was released shortly after, though, thanks to the Browns having another unmanageably stacked-up QB room.

How QB Tyler Huntley’s Arrival Changes Things Up In Browns Unofficial QB Depth Chart

Browns quarterbacks Shedeur Sanders (12), Kenny Pickett (8) and Joe Flacco (15) talk during minicamp June 10, 2025, in Berea, Ohio.

Just hours before the Browns signed Huntley, ESPN’s Adam Schefter revealed the Browns’ first reportedly unofficial QB depth chart of the season: Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, followed by Shedeur Sanders.

Albeit, Huntley’s addition to this list will change the order quite a bit. From the looks of it, Pickett will most likely stay on top of the chart, given his recovery supports him. If anything, the QB is determined.

“I’m trying to get back out there, you know, as fast as possible. I’ve never had, you know, a soft tissue injury like this, so really a first-time experience in my career, I felt like I came in great shape, was hitting numbers speed-wise that I’ve never hit before,” Pickett said Saturday, confirming him still being on for the QB1 spot.

“So, it’s frustrating that it happened, but you know, turn the page and just trying to be, you know, as good as I can be when I do return,” he continued.

That said, veteran QB Flacco has been quite tenacious for the position, too. Sanders and Gabriel’s reps in the practice allude to them jostling for the spot as well.

Huntley would first need to secure his spot so as not to get released again, like the previous season, before joining the race.
