Ian Rapoport Names “Most Likely” Landing Spot For Baker Mayfield: Fans React

April 16, 2022 by The Spun Leave a Comment

Cleveland Browns quarterback and former No. 1 NFL Draft pick Baker Mayfield on Sunday.

Nobody knows what the future has in store for Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield. But NFL insider Ian Rapoport had two surprise “most likely” landing spots for the former No. 1 overall pick.

Appearing on the Pat McAfee Show, Rapoport said that the Carolina Panthers would be the most likely landing spot for Mayfield. But he also suggested that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would make sense too.

“To me the Carolina Panthers seem to be the most likely spot for Baker Mayfield… the Buccaneers would make some sense to me as well,” Rapoport said.

NFL fans and insiders were particularly intrigued by the comment on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Many pointed out that a move there might make sense. Some noted that Buccaneers executive Bruce Arians has expressed interest in Mayfield in the past:

I feel like Carolina is gonna draft a guy, but the Bucs make a lot of sense to me. Backup Tom Brady for a year and Tom probably either retires or goes somewhere else, and then Baker gets a shot to start in 2023.

similar to a Mitch Trubisky route https://t.co/FY41crTL8D

It certainly wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world if the Buccaneers brought on Baker Mayfield in a low-cost trade and had him sit behind Tom Brady for a year. They could deploy him as a backup in case Brady gets hurt.

Mayfield would become a free agent after the 2022 season, but if the opportunity to fight for the starting job comes up, maybe the Bucs would extend him a contract.

In any event, the Cleveland Browns certainly can’t keep him under contract for the 2022 season. So they’re going to have to get rid of him at some point before the season starts.

Will Baker Mayfield get traded to either the Buccaneers or the Panthers?
