Let’s just say a couple of days ago, I took a trip on the DeLorean Time Machine. You know, I got my “flux capacitor” locked and loaded and was able to travel to today.
If I said to all of the fans here in Cleveland when I returned. “Yeah, the Browns got Shadeur Sanders.”

What would the response have been?
Well, many would instantly jump to the conclusion that the Browns really did it and picked him at number two overall as the franchise quarterback for this team for many years to come. Others would think maybe he dropped and the team got him with the first pick of the second round. Lastly, others would say that the team traded back in the first round to take him later than, say, number two overall.
However, most would be absolutely enthralled with him being that likely number two overall pick.
It’s true that if I gave the whole story about Sanders dropping and the Browns taking him at number 144 in the fifth round, well, everyone would’ve been shocked. Probably thought I was joking just to mess with people.
Saturday, after Sanders dropped through the first three rounds, I wrote an article explaining why. Also, I wrote an article giving the good/bad of the Browns picking him at 144. Both of these links to read are listed below!
What’s most amazing to me is that this is literally the same exact player. The same quarterback many thought could get selected number two overall or at least high in the draft by a team that trades up or whatnot.
Yet, here we are. Pick number 144. Fifth round selection.
Sure, fans are excited. Especially those that will defend Shedeur if their lives depended on it. *Cough, Cough, ESPN’s Mel Kiper. Cough, Cough*
But now. The skepticism is certainly there. I wrote an article trying to explain why he dropped three rounds. So did the rest of the NFL try to make such a justification. My point in all of this is that the ‘hype factor’ is completely different from any quarterback the Browns picked high in the first round. And there have been many, as we all know, throughout the years.
I already see how less excited fans are about the pick. Many are unable to understand the selection with the current quarterback room, the pick of quarterback Dillon Gabriel and such too. Why did the Browns take a shot way later in the draft instead of rolling with the current quarterbacks? Why wasn’t Shedeur good enough to be taken much higher up in the draft, or instead of another quarterback?
What’s crazy is that this is going to be talked about all summer, all throughout training camp, the preseason and throughout his first year and beyond. Not just by Browns fans, but really everyone in the league, because of the clout that’s carried by this young man.
Hopefully, everyone will regret the mistake they made in not taking Sanders at any point ahead of the Browns. That the Browns will be thankful to take that shot, even though it was so late to pick him in the fifth.
Now, I’m going on the DeLorean to watch Bob Feller, get tickets to the 2016 NBA Finals and have some more fun with Doc Brown and Marty McFly!
