The rich only get richer for Cleveland’s talented defensive unit as ‘JOK’ was a force for Cleveland this past Sunday.
Most non-Browns fans tuned into the Browns Bears game to watch rookie QB Justin Fields play in his first start of the season. While those fans watched one rookie stood out above the rest and it wasn’t Fields. Instead, it was Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah or ‘JOK’ as the fans refer to him. ‘JOK’ was all over the field in an utter dismantling of the Bears’ offense on Sunday.
Owusu-Koramoah logged four tackles, one tackle for loss, two passes defended, and half of a sack. In a day where most of the shine went to the historic showcase from DE Miles Garrett, DE Jadeveon Clowney, and the rest of the team who combined for nine sacks, ‘JOK’ certainly shouldn’t be left out of the conversation. Owusu-Koramoah’s presence was felt by the Bears as multiple passes set out to Bears’ running backs were disrupted by the rookie linebacker.
One would think this is just the beginning of a long and accomplished career from the Notre Dame product. ‘JOK’ was a major disruption at the college level as well culminating in him receiving the 2020 Dick Butkus Award for the nations’ best linebacker. Commonly described as a versatile and highly explosive player in college, he was causing scouts to salivate at the combine. ‘JOK’ has elite speed and power which makes him a lethal heat-seeking missile on the football field. It truly looks at times like he was shot out of a cannon as he collides with players.
How does such a talented player like Owusu-Koramoah fall into the Browns’ hands? During the draft season, concerns arose over his height and weight (6’1 and 215 pounds) and heart-related issues caused him to fall out of the first round and Cleveland selected him with the 52nd overall pick.
As of right now Cleveland fans and ‘JOK’ can have the last laugh as he has shown flashes of a great linebacker in today’s league. In fact, according to Pro Football Focus Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah is currently their highest grated linebacker with a 90.1. That would show while his overall stats aren’t popping off the stat sheet the talent is being recognized. If you haven’t yet, go give ‘JOK’ a vote! It definitely won’t be the last time you see his name on the poll this season.
