Mack Wilson shoulder injury minor, likely to return in few days

August 16, 2021 by Browns Wire Leave a Comment

The Cleveland Browns dominated the Jacksonville Jaguars in the opening preseason game but came away with two injuries. Stephen Carlson and Mack Wilson both left the game early and head coach Kevin Stefanski did not have updates when he spoke to the media on Sunday.

Since Stefanski’s comments, we have learned that Carlson is likely to miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury.

Wilson has been one of the highlights of the team’s training camp so far. Competing with newcomers Anthony Walker and Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah along with holdovers Jacob Phillips, Malcolm Smith and Sione Takitaki, Wilson’s path to a roster spot is up in the air.

Last year, Wilson had a knee injury that had him pondering retirement. The shoulder injury suffered Saturday night is reportedly not as serious, as first reported by Brad Stainbrook:

Sources: #Browns LB Mack Wilson suffered a grade 1 shoulder sprain and avoided serious injury. He’ll miss a couple days, but will be back soon.

Since the initial report, it looks as if Wilson has sprained his AC joint specifically.

With Owusu-Koramoah having a great game against the Jaguars and Walker likely returning to team drills throughout the week, Wilson will need to return as soon as possible. It will also be important to Wilson that his shoulder problem doesn’t linger like his knee issue did last year.
