Browns star defensive end Myles Garrett was cited for going 100 mph in a 60 mph zone. This occurred in Strongsville, Ohio, by their local police on late Saturday night (8/9, 2:01 am).
Garrett received a $250 ticket. He doesn’t have to go to court or anything.
Now, I personally am no driving expert. As a man with Epilepsy, I don’t even drive myself. But, there is a reason speed limits are made and why they are made in certain places. This isn’t the first time Garrett has been cited for speeding. Actually, the eighth time since he’s been in Cleveland (2017).
Garrett is currently on a four-year, $160 million extension with the Browns. Thus, I don’t think this ticket is going to be a big deal in regard to his finances on anything.
Of course, this would be a much bigger story if Garrett were to get in some sort of accident while on the road or something like that happened. And that’s a lot more likely to happen when blazing over the limit instead of going steady while driving.
Thankfully, there was no news of Garrett being drunk or anything when this incident occurred. That would’ve made the situation a lot worse, obviously.
Also, Myles, you’re a role model for millions of young people who absolutely idolize you and what you do. That’s why it matters what you do in circumstances such as this one.
Let’s not make speeding over the limit a cool thing for the new drivers hitting the road these days. Let’s keep the “coolness” to playing football and how great you are for the Browns each and every snap.
Last season for the Dawgs, Garrett had 40 tackles, 14 sacks and three forced fumbles. He originally requested for a trade this offseason and then was able to change his mind and make that huge contract extension, as noted. He’s the most-paid non-quarterback in the league. It’s exciting to have him back, rushing the passer in a Browns uniform as one of the best to ever do it; that’s for sure.
Overall, this franchise suffers from many storylines, from either just simply sucking, past quarterbacks with terrible problems, or coaches who are idiots. Let’s not add anything else to the many distractions there are in Cleveland.
Once again, is this the biggest news ever? Well, no. Not at all.
However, let’s just try and drive the speed limit and keep it safe. Because, as noted, an accident would be much worse than a simple ticket or anything. Plus, the young fans are watching.
