Nick Chubb to miss Sunday’s game against the Cardinals

Cleveland running back ruled out of the game with a calf injury that kept him out of practice all week.

Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb will miss Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals after being ruled out on Friday with a calf injury.

Chubb injured his calf late in last Sunday’s loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, a game where he rushed for 161 yards and a touchdown, and did not practice all week.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski said he is “not going to go past this game” when asked on Friday if Chubb will miss multiple games.

With Chubb out, the bulk of the running game should turn to Kareem Hunt, who is averaging 5.4 yards per carry this season to go along with five rushing touchdowns and 444 yards of total offense.

As luck would have it, Hunt is dealing with injuries to his wrist and knee that kept him out of practice until Friday, after which he said he felt “pretty good, so we’re going to see how it goes,” according to Dan Labbe at cleveland.com.

Chubb and Hunt, who is questionable for Sunday’s game, are not the only ones dealing with injuries. On Friday the Browns also listed as questionable starting offensive tackles Jedrick Wills Jr. (ankle) and Jackson Conklin (knee), starting defensive ends Jadeveon Clowney (knee and elbow) and Myles Garrett (knee and ankle), backup defensive end Takkarist McKinley (knee and ankle), starting center JC Tretter (knee), starting cornerbacks Greg Newsome (calf) and Denzel Ward (neck), and backup cornerback A.J. Green (shoulder and knee).

Lineback Malcolm Smith was ruled out of the game with an abdomen injury.

If Chubb is not the league’s best running back then he is 1B to Derrick Henry of the Tennessee Titans as Chubb has 523 rushing yards, four touchdowns and is averaging 5.8 yards per carry, so Cleveland’s offense will feel his absence, even with Hunt being on the field.
