I’ve never talked to quarterback Baker Mayfield myself. Although, that would’ve been a cool experience. Let that be full disclosure. However, I did give my dog the middle name of Baker. Does that count for anything?
Well, there has been some drama in the realm of Cleveland Sports Twitter and it has to do with the quarterbacks. Check this out:
Clickbait. You and many other Cleveland local media continue to be drama stirring reporters with no sources or facts. Don’t put words in my mouth so you can put food on your table. I’m not your puppet. https://t.co/MfHnqWk65s

The common theme has to do with Browns beat reporter Mary Cay Cabot and these reports on what Baker has (or hasn’t) said or requested from the team.
Now, everyone has an opinion on what needs to be done with Baker after this final game against Cincinnati that doesn’t really mean much. The starting quarterback won’t be playing but will travel to Los Angeles to have surgery to repair the torn labrum in his left shoulder on Jan. 19.
What has to be decided by the Browns is if the struggles that Mayfield had in recent games were more about the injury he sustained or simply just bad performance overall. If the team actually needs to move on and find a different quarterback or if Mayfield will end up performing better after successful surgery and recovery heading into next season.
Frankly, if Mayfield really wanted to stay in Cleveland, why would he tweet out such harsh words about a local reporter? That could be a sign that he is ready to move on… The Browns do have an option to extend Mayfield’s contract a year. However, he probably wants a long-term extension from a potential suitor to avoid risk with injuries and such in the future.
It will be very interesting to see how the Browns and Mayfield work out this contract situation moving forward. What the team decides to do will impact the franchise for many years to come. The best of the best still may be yet to come and wouldn’t it be horrible if Mayfield thrives elsewhere as a healthy veteran quarterback? That’s the risk the Browns may be taking. We shall see…
Overall, let’s try and report correct information please and not piss off quarterbacks that are already having health problems…
