Ravens, Chargers Could Revive Four-Time Pro Bowler Free Agent

Four-time Pro Bowl free-agent running back Nick Chubb is still available in the market but could sign after the NFL Draft. According to one report, there’s a chance that the former star could return to Cleveland, even on a one-year deal, since he hasn’t been receiving much interest. Despite that, it might be better for him to head elsewhere, as he won’t be getting many touches, and the Browns are potentially rebuilding for the future under new quarterback Kenny Pickett. Pickett will likely win the job depending on what happens in that department, and the team could draft a new running back to surround him with fresh talent.

For Chubb, it’s been a rough back-to-back season for the running back since he hasn’t been able to stay healthy. He came back last season to revive his career after suffering a devastating knee injury that kept him out of contests for over a year. However, it didn’t last long, as Chubb went back on the IR with a broken foot, so it’s hard to imagine he will be worth the headache in Cleveland. Chubb probably won’t return to the Browns, and other teams might bring out the best in him.

Originally selected in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, the former Georgia product has a lot of gas in the tank either way. Chubb won’t sign a long-term deal with his next roster, but these two teams will offer the same potential contract as the Browns.

Helping Derrick Henry

Last season, the Baltimore Ravens’ running game was one of the best in the league while Derrick Henry was bulldozing plenty of defenders. Keaton Mitchell did return after suffering a devastating injury, but he hasn’t been able to make much noise in the backfield. He might be able to change things around, but the Ravens need an immediate answer at the backup position to keep Henry fresh for the postseason for years to come. Maybe this could be a great opportunity for the Ravens to steal their rival’s beloved running back and team with Henry.

He won’t start again in the league, but he might be able to show signs of life in an AFC Powerhouse team that is always in the Super Bowl conversations. The Ravens are not far from becoming champions, and while Chubb might not make much of an impact, he could provide some stability. Meanwhile, Justice Hill is only reliable enough in screen and play-action plays, so Chubb in the mix could boost the ground game.

Jim’s Ground Game

For the Chargers, the ground game will look dramatically different, similar to their defense. The Chargers are testing the waters again after signing Najee Harris to a one-year deal. Gus Edwards didn’t work out in Los Angeles, so they need to find a capable replacement for him. Since the Chargers are experimenting, the team could roll the dice on Chubb for a year as well to see how he could fit into their offensive scheme.

The team won’t lose anything since they have one of the best cap spaces in the league.
