Report: Browns Veteran Listed as Trade Candidate – 3 Possible Fits

September 20, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Even though it’s still early in the season, the Cleveland Browns are 0-2, so this means tight end David Njoku could be a possible trade candidate this year. According to a report, the source believes the Browns are positioning themselves as sellers (once again) this season, as it’s likely the team won’t be a contender. It’s fair to say that after their disastrous loss against the Ravens, despite having quarterback Joe Flacco under center, they don’t look like a team that wants to win. While they have issues with the signal-caller position, it doesn’t make sense for the Browns to keep Njoku anymore, as he’s in his final year of his current contract.

After drafting Harold Fannin Jr. in this year’s draft, he and Njoku have been sharing the snap count, and that alone makes Njoku expendable. The reason for that is Fanin provides more of a longer-term upside than Njoku, who is older and could excel better with a team that wants to win sooner rather than later. Originally selected in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the former Miami product became one of the most fan-favorite tight ends in the league. No matter the circumstances in Cleveland, Njoku always found a way to make an impact on the field, and he could continue doing that with these three possible teams.

Potential Destinations

Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers’ offense is at its best in several years, led by quarterback Jordan Love. However, they’re getting hit with a few injuries, which may hold them back if they can’t get back in full health. The good news is that Tucker Kraft’s injury isn’t as serious as many were expecting, so he should be good to go. Despite that, the Packers look like a true Super Bowl contender, and they should continue to build their roster.

After trading for a generational pass-rusher, Micah Parsons, they probably won’t be afraid to make another. The team has one of the best tight end duos between Kraft and Luke Musgrave, who can catch the balls in play-action and create some blocks for their running back. Why not get Njoku a part of the mix and give Josh Jacobs three loaded run-blockers that have the size to make life easier?

Kansas City Chiefs

Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs have a wide receiver issue yet again, but this time they’re 0-2. While Patrick Mahomes hasn’t been the same for the past two seasons, the only ones left to blame here might be the sudden aura lost from tight end Travis Kelce. He is winding down in his career, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he decides to retire after the season. The Chiefs must continue to build the tight end room somehow since Kelce won’t be around much longer.

Njoku is the perfect candidate for that and can ensure that Mahomes can depend on him while the team uses Noah Gray and Robert Tonyan as depth.

Washington Commanders

The same can be said about the Washington Commanders. However, their offense looks to be more intact, while Zach Ertz is also aging and could retire after the 2025 season. Ben Sinnott is coming off his worst rookie campaign last year, and John Bates is more of a pass and run-blocker. They must also get a long-term tight end, and Njoku could fill the hole.
