The Seattle Seahawks have brought in a quarterback for the 2022 NFL season. But it’s not the one who has been openly asking for the team to sign him.
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Seahawks are re-signing veteran quarterback Geno Smith for the 2022 season. Smith went 1-2 as a starter in place of an injured Russell Wilson last year. He completed 68-percent of his passes for 702 yards and five touchdowns in four games.
Smith is a veteran with 34 starts and 45 games worth of playing experience. He’s been with the Seahawks for the last several years.
But NFL fans have decided to use this moment to point and laugh at Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield. The Browns QB has openly stated his desire to go to the Seahawks. Now that the Seahawks have Smith, there may not be room on the roster for him:

It’s uncertain whether Geno Smith will compete for the starting job with Drew Lock or for the backup job with Jacob Eason. But he now knows where he’ll be playing in 2022.
The same cannot be said for Baker Mayfield. It’s been widely believed that the Seattle Seahawks would make some kind of trade offer for the embattled Browns quarterback.
There’s certainly space on the roster for the Seahawks to bring in Mayfield at some point. But between the knowledge Smith and Eason have of the system and the team’s prior commitment to Lock, it seems a lot less likely now.
If the Seahawks don’t draft a quarterback in the 2022 NFL Draft, a trade for Mayfield could happen before training camp opens.
For now, he remains a man effectively without a home.
