Shedeur Sanders’ oblique injury may prove to be more harmful for him than he initially imagined. So much so that it might end up with Sanders traded off to another team in his first year in the NFL. The injury sidelined the Colorado Buffaloes product from the Cleveland Browns QB battle that he fought for throughout the offseason.
What’s worse was the news that Kevin Stefanski’s announcement came with: the Browns may not be keeping all four of their QBs. It’s not “possible nor realistic,” as he puts it.
“When it comes to every position, everything’s up for determination over the next couple days. I think we’ll let it play out as we get closer to the cut down. Those are all conversations that we are always having, but those are tough decisions,” Stefanski added.
The words that sounded almost like a warning, which might mean a trade is around the corner. With Joe Flacco handling the QB1 position, and Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Tyler Huntley falling behind him in the depth chart, a Shedeur Sanders trade might be the Browns’ best bet.
Top 3 Spots For Shedeur Sanders Trade

New Orleans Saints
Although the Saints have an intense three-way QB battle underway between rookie Tyler Shough, Spencer Rattler, and Jake Haener, the chances of Kellen Moore swinging for a trade are too much to ignore.
Not only will it add more positional depth, but it will also give the Saints a shot at finding a franchise QB if Rattler and Shough don’t fit in the shoes. All three, Rattler, Shough, and Haener, haven’t been convincing enough to cement themselves as the definite and long-term solution at QB1 after Derek Carr’s retirement.
Sanders’ performance in his NFL preseason debut should be enough to convince the franchise to give another rookie a try when they already have Shough.
Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders have done their research on QBs when revamping their QB room this offseason, and it is showing. The position looks good with Geno Smith as the undoubted starter, Aidan O’Connell as his backup, and rookie Cam Miller filling up the QB room.
O’Connell’s inconsistencies, however, have always been a point of concern and have failed to establish him as a reliable option under center. Sanders could be his potential replacement, where he could learn from Smith’s veteran experience.
Las Vegas Rams
The Rams currently stand as one of the more desperate teams in need of a good QB trade. Despite having three quarterbacks, their QB room is in limbo.
Matthew Stafford‘s back injury might be recovering positively, but his injury-proneness is something the franchise can’t ignore. Also, his age, being 37, adds another reason the franchise can’t count on him as their long-term solution.
Jimmy Garoppolo’s contract is expiring soon, and the Rams renewing his contract sounds highly unlikely. That leaves Stenson Bennett. Bennett has shown promise during the 2025 offseason, but only time can tell how well he will fare in the regular season.
A Shedeur Sanders trade will give the Rams head coach Sean McVay another chance at finding his franchise QB this season instead of having to wait until the 2026 NFL Draft.
