NFL: Cleveland Browns Training Camp
Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

More of the latest Browns news and notes from around the web in today’s dose of the Sunday Dawg Chow.

Cleveland Browns:

  • Browns appreciate Freddie Kitchens’ support, inspiration despite disastrous 2019 (Beacon Journal) – Myles Garrett saw an opening, and he didn’t sack anyone. Instead, the star defensive end sidled up to Freddie Kitchens. Garrett briefly stuck one arm around the shoulder of his former Browns coach, now the senior offensive assistant for the New York Giants. They remained at a respectful distance and chatted for a bit.
  • David Njoku once again sees future in Cleveland, but must improve consistency to make it a reality (Browns Zone) – David Njoku remains an enigma. Njoku talked to reporters Friday for the first time during training camp. The athletic tight end made headlines by professing his desire to stay with the Browns for years to come, an about-face from a year ago when he wanted to be traded. The flip-flop fits with the personality and performance Njoku’s shown in his four-plus years in the NFL. He’s a model of inconsistency.
  • Baker Mayfield, Browns teammates finding comfort in second training camp under Kevin Stefanski (cleveland.com) – Comfortable is one of the key words this Browns training camp. There were two plays during Thursday’s practice with the Giants where the word seemed to fit.
  • Jedrick Wills Jr. expects to be ‘a lot better’ in second year at left tackle (clevelandbrowns.com) – Wills has passed all the tests necessary at learning the left tackle position in 2020. Now, he’s looking to fulfill his potential and become one of the top tackles in the NFL.

NFL:

  • Former GM Floyd Reese, who built the Tennessee Titans Super Bowl team, dies at 73 (tennessean.com) – Floyd Reese, the former Tennessee Titans general manager and one of the most influential figures in franchise history, has died, the team announced. Reese was 73.
  • Dak Prescott (shoulder) is on track to start Week 1 (ESPN) – Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is expected to be a full go for Week 1 of the regular season, a source told ESPN’s Stephania Bell on Saturday. Prescott has been held out of team drills since late July because of a latissimus strain in his right shoulder. He has had no setbacks and remains on track with a progressive throwing program designed to increase volume of work, the source said.
  • Giants cornerback brings fire, and BBQ, to his new team (New York Times) – Adoree’ Jackson, the headliner of the team’s off-season free agency signees, makes a habit of studying the experts around him. That includes his grillmaster father, Chris.
  • Matt Nagy reiterates Andy Dalton will start Week 1 for Bears (NFL.com) – Chicago Bears coach Matt Nagy continues to insist Andy Dalton will be the Week 1 starter and backed up that assertion by playing the 33-year-old two full quarters Sunday against mostly Bills backups.
