Earlier this Wednesday, there were conflicting reports about Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt’s job security.
NFL insider Josina Anderson was told that Van Pelt was let go by the Browns. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, however, said a final decision hasn’t been made.
Moments ago, Browns fans received a firm update on Van Pelt’s future in Cleveland.
Van Pelt informed ESPN reporter Jake Trotter that he’s no longer the offensive coordinator for the Browns.
“On to the next one,” Van Pelt told Trotter. “Proud of my time there.”
Alex Van Pelt tells me he’s out as Browns offensive coordinator. “On to the next one. Proud of my time there.” AVP had been with Cleveland since 2020. (Also, the Browns fired RB coach Stump Mitchell and not renewed the contract of TE coach T.C. McCartney)

It’s unclear what’s next for Van Pelt. He shouldn’t have trouble landing on another staff though considering his history.
Since 2006, Van Pelt has coached for the Bills, Buccaneers, Packers, Bengals and Browns. That experience should be valuable to at least one team out there.
As for the Browns, they’ll probably search for an offensive coordinator who’s eager to work with Deshaun Watson. So much of their success is tied to his health and production.
