Cleveland, OH- On May 21st, the Cleveland Browns added WR Matt Landers. The 6-4, 200-pound receiver has yet to register a snap in the NFL. Landers originally committed to play college football at Georgia University as a 3-star prospect in 2017, where he would end up redshirting his freshman season.
He struggled to find a role in a loaded receiver room, in 2 seasons he reeled in only 12 receptions for 132 yards and 1 TD. Landers then transferred to Toledo in February of 2021. This led to a break-out season for Landers, hauling in 20 receptions for 514 yards and 5 TDs.
Landers would look to the transfer portal once again, this time finding his new home in Fayetteville, Arkansas with the Razorbacks. He appeared in 13 games during his senior season grabbing a career-high 47 receptions for 901 yards and 8 TDs.
He entered his name into the 2023 NFL Draft and showed many scouts his high ceiling , a 37-inch Vert, and a 10’ 10” broad jump, and running a 4.37 40-yard dash. Ultimately, this was not enough to get Landers drafted but the Seattle Seahawks invited Landers to their rookie camp. He eventually was released and quickly found a new home in Carolina on their practice squad for a couple weeks.
Landers then played in the UFL in 2024 with the Arlington Renegades and the San Antonio Brahmas before finding his most recent home in Cleveland, Ohio. While Landers is likely just a camp body, his athleticism and frame is undeniably there. His skills are still very raw, and his footwork/ lower body control needs some redefining but at the young age of 24, this could be a dark horse for the final 53-man or at the very least the practice squad.
