I wrote an article this morning about quarterback Shedeur Sanders and why I thought he didn’t get selected in the first three rounds by any team in the league.

Well, the Browns decided to shoot their shot and draft him with the 144th overall pick after trading up to pick in the fifth round with the Seattle Seahawks. Let’s go over the good and the bad from this Sanders selection.
Bad First:
-Having to deal with Sanders’ personality. As I said, “An issue is that he’s perceived as very arrogant, entitled and it was said he did not perform well in his interviews with his potential suitors before the draft.”
-Dealing with the package that is, Deion Sanders. The Browns will likely have his father telling them what to do or making suggestions because his son is now a quarterback on the team.
–There will be a lot of attention on Sanders. With that will come intense pressure here in Cleveland for the entire team as a whole, especially on offense.
-The Good:
Luckily, most of the points I made in the previous article are invalid. Sanders wasn’t selected until way later at pick 144. The trade made was for two likely meaningless picks sent to the Seahawks. Unlike selecting him at say #2 overall, which was thought to be possible, the Browns did not take a huge gamble in the selection in regards where they took him in the draft. If he is bad, that could be a disappointment, but not a standard “bust” like an extremely high pick, as we’ve seen so many times with this team.
Sanders does have the ability to play quarterback and that’s why he was so talked about to begin with.
He has the potential to become a star on the Browns.
Now, with this slide to the fifth round, Sanders has a lot to prove as a member of a crowded quarterback room.

He’ll have to contend for the starting position while getting the guidance and leadership from veteran Joe Flacco. This certain chip on his shoulder is going to help him try and become even better than he already was in college and that will be great to watch.
It’s going to be interesting how Sanders does even just this upcoming year and if he is able to obtain that starting job or if he’ll be a backup to begin with in Cleveland.

I have mixed feelings about the pick, yet I will be very excited to see how this all plays out.
Congratulations, Shadeur and welcome to Cleveland! I can’t wait to see if you are able to prove everyone wrong (including me) and become a star as a Browns quarterback.
