What?
It couldn’t be.
This would be as if the Cleveland Browns were trading their greatest player of possibly all time. However, last Sunday showed with the results of the 32-13 loss to the Patriots. Even though DE Myles Garrett had 5.0 sacks and a forced fumble that was still the outcome.
Honestly, it would have to be a load. Straight up, a team willing to offer draft picks, star young players and so much more for the Browns to even consider making a deal. But let’s be honest…
The Browns are 2-6 and clearly have no chance this season. It’s going to be a rebuilding project sadly and everyone knows it. So if that’s the case, what’s the point?
Why spend the next few years watching this rebuilding project and seeing each and every outing with a “damn, I wish he was making a difference more than just on the play, but on the team as a whole,” In the sense that the team would actually be projected to at least make the playoffs if not contend for a Super Bowl.
But here’s the key to this entire thing and that is whatever offer the Browns would eventually accept is a load from the team they are in talks with moving forward. It’s the acceptance of first-round picks, young players and so much more that would make this work.
I do recall Garrett himself initially requested a trade out of Cleveland after eight seasons because of his desire to ultimately win. We saw him slamming his helmet down on the sideline in the Patriots game….
I previously wrote an article that made the point that Garrett and his position of defensive end is not like the basketball of LeBron James. Clearly, that showed with the absolute disaster of a loss against the Patriots.
This season, Garrett has 22 tackles, 10 sacks and a forced fumble. However, he is consistently a force rushing the quarterback that every team needs to account for and makes the defense just that much better.
Yes, losing Garrett to a different team would be tough a fans, but it’s also the realization that this team could use the help moving forward. This compared to watching Garrett continue to thrive while the team continues to…lose…and lose again…
But think about this…
Garrett can’t win games on his own and this season already appears to be a lost cause. The only argument for keeping Garrett is that he is signed not just for this season but throughout 2030 as a member of the Browns. So maybe the team would be able to improve in the coming years.
The NFL Trade Deadline is November 4th (next Tuesday)
Let’s see what happens. If I had to guess I think the Browns keep Garrett but just the fact that this trade idea is being talking about goes to show that something is there…
