A look at how much it would’ve cost the Browns to kick the tires on Chubb again
Nick Chubb had one more hurdle to clear before officially becoming a Houston Texan: passing his physical. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Chubb passed his physical on Monday and officially signed on the dotted line.
With that news also comes some contract-related information. According to Rapoport, it’s a 1-year, $2.5 million deal for Chubb that could be worth up to $5 million:

Last year, Chubb took a big cut in the final year of his contract with the Browns in order to stay with the team to have a cap hit of about $6 million instead of $16 million. It was a feel-good story to see Chubb return late in the season, but he also looked nowhere near his former self. On top of that, he couldn’t finish out the season due to suffering a broken foot.
Back in March, I predicted that Chubb would probably have to settle for a deal worth a couple million dollars, with incentives layered on. That’s what happened. However, if Chubb looks strong in 2025, the Texans could be in position to give him a nice contract extension mid-way through the season.
We don’t have the exact breakdown of Chubb’s deal with the Texans, but my guess is that he’ll have the minimum base salary of $1.17 million, and a signing bonus worth $1.33 million. As for the incentives, that would likely involve either a percentage of snaps played, or yards accumulated.
