Cleveland fans heard some bad news over the Twitter Sphere on Friday with the announcement that former Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry has signed a one-year contract with the New Orleans Saints. It is worth up to six million.
Landry, 29, spent the last four years with the Browns, including last year’s disaster where in 12 games he caught 57 receptions for 570 yards and only two touchdowns. Career lows in every category. Landry’s top year was in 2017 with Miami and 112 receptions. Even so, his top year in receieving yards came with the Browns in 2019 and 1174 yards.
The former LSU Tiger had two seasons with over 100 receptions and three seasons with over 1000 yards receieving.
Now, what Jarvis was so good for was serving as that slot receiever that was reliable to catch the ball when it was needed. Such as that big third-down play to extend the drive. That is where he will be so missed in the upcoming season(s).
The Browns made the move of trading for wide receiever Amari Cooper. When this move was made, some had speculation that it could be the end of Landry in Cleveland because of this addition. Cooper serves as more of a down-field threat than Landry does. However, they are both talented receievers.
Well, those people were right.
If everything went well for the Browns last season and it wasn’t so caotic, Landry may have re-signed here in Cleveland. However, as we all know, that was not the case. I do feel like new quarterback DeShaun Watson and Landry wouldn’t really connected. Even so, Watson will look towards Cooper instead…
Plus, there is that lingering suspension potential that never seems to go away for Watson.
Well, Jarvis, thanks for the memories. Best of luck in your future endevors.
In case you were curious, the Browns do face the Saints in Week 16 on Saturday, Decemeber 24 at home. Thus, fans will get to see Jarvis on the home field this season. It could be a huge game.
Interesting…
