1 Question For Each Cleveland Cavaliers Rookie

October 15, 2024 by Last Word On Pro Basketball

Similar to other Eastern Conference opponents like the Heat or the Celtics, the Cleveland Cavaliers were able to make off with talent from the 2024 NBA Draft. While the newest Cavaliers possess great skill and ability, they also have issues that they must address in the coming season. Here is a question that each rookie on the Cavaliers has to answer during the 2024-25 NBA season.

1 Question For Each Cleveland Cavaliers Rookie

Jaylon Tyson

Question: Can Tyson Immediately Find A Role In The Rotation For The Cavaliers?

The Cavaliers selected Jaylon Tyson with the 20th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. Tyson succeeded with the California Golden Bears as an on-ball shot-creator who can relentlessly attack defenses with his versatile offensive skill set. He loves breaking down defenders with his dribbling and attacking the basket. Additionally, Tyson has had success operating in the pick-and-roll and is an adept passer. Also, Tyson can function well as an off-ball spacer and plays with a high basketball IQ. Throughout Summer League, Tyson’s offensive excellence was made apparent as he had an impressive run in Las Vegas. Notably, Tyson had an efficient 21-point near-triple-double in a loss against the Lakers, showcasing his versatility as a player.

Without a doubt, Tyson has shown that he has the skills to be an impactful player at Summer League. Thus, the big question for Tyson is whether or not he can immediately find a role in the rotation for the Cavaliers. To do this, Tyson must focus on showcasing his off-ball abilities as a shooter and cutter. He won’t have many opportunities with the ball in his hands, so it is critical to prove that he can be effective offensively off the ball. Furthermore, Tyson must show that he can play defense. As a player, defense is where Tyson is weakest. This is largely due to his athleticism, but he must improve regardless. If he can show he can play defense and be a threat off-ball, Tyson will have a place in the rotation. It will be up to Tyson to prove to the Cavalier coaches that he is ready.

Luke Travers

Question: Can Travers Improve His Shooting?

The Cavaliers selected Luke Travers with the 56th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. Despite being drafted in 2022, Travers spent his time overseas until 2024, when he signed a two-way contract with the team. As a player, Travers operates as a tall guard who can handle the ball and provide some shooting. He is also a solid rebounder as well. Travers had an up-and-down Summer League, but he did have moments where he showed promise. He had a couple of games where he rebounded well and had a couple of efficient shooting games.

With Travers, he has skills that can be valuable to the Cavaliers. However, he still needs to refine those skills further. His shooting will determine the ceiling he has as a player. So, the big question for Travers is whether or not he can improve his shooting. If he can, then it will go a long way for him to earn real minutes with the team. He will likely play in the G League for the season, so he must use that time to improve.
