Ohio State’s offense is absolutely blowing teams out of the water so far this season. One of the biggest reasons for the Buckeyes’ dominance is Junior Wide Receiver Carnell Tate. The Buckeyes are sitting in a nice place right now with a 7-0 record overall. They won their seventh game of the season on Saturday, October 18th, with a 34-0 shutout victory over Wisconsin on the road. In that contest, Tate showed out with six catches for 111 yards. Tate also grabbed two touchdowns in the big road win. Paired with Ohio State Superstar Jeremiah Smith, Tate is virtually another 1A option at Receiver for the Buckeyes. These two have become unstoppable and have helped the Buckeyes average over 40 points per game so far this season. Buckeye fans are getting a treat in watching Carnell Tate. He is growing into a Superstar before our very eyes, one who could help lead the Buckeyes to another National Championship.
Tate hails from Chicago, Illinois, originally. He attended Marist High School first and then transferred to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. During high school, Tate really blossomed as a football player. He ended up being a five-star recruit, and he was the No. 3 receiver in the 2023 recruiting class. Ttate combines speed with pretty good size. He stands at 6’3″ and weighs 195 pounds. He has great hands as well. These attributes have many talking that Tate could be a first-round NFL draft pick come April.
What makes Tate special? It’s that Chicago grit, mixed with poise, that comes with the collegiate experience. Against Wisconsin, he snapped off crisp catches throughout the game. The play that stood out is when he got behind the secondary a bit and then caught a deep 33-yard score that had Camp Randall Stadium really buzzing. Sayin called him “the truth” post-game, praising how Tate adjusts mid-air like a human highlight reel. His teammate Jeremiah Smith echoed that, saying Tate’s unlocking the whole offense by drawing double-teams. In a unit averaging 45 points per game, Tate’s emergence means defenses can’t key on one guy. It’s pick-your-poison football.
Beyond the box score, Tate’s got that quiet fire. He’s mentoring incoming recruits, hitting the film room early, and even shouted out Chicago youth programs after the win.
More Buckeye Notes on Tate:
