The Cleveland Cavaliers are on a 15-game win streak for the second time this season, following their 109-104 win over the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday. The Cavs started the 2024-25 campaign winning 15 straight and now join an elite company of teams to do it twice in one season. They are the sixth team in league history to achieve this historic feat. Additionally, Cleveland owns a 12-game winning streak this season, meaning they own three of the four best win streaks of any team. Let’s further explore the Cavs’ historic win streak.

Cavs Amidst Historic Run With Second 15 Game Win Streak
During the 15th win, the Cavs entered action without Donovan Mitchell, De’Andre Hunter, and Ty Jerome meaning Darius Garland was the man to step up and lead the Cavs. He finished the game with 30 points and eight assists, including 18 points in the fourth quarter as Cleveland mounted an 18-point comeback.
Kenny Atkinson said in a postgame press conference. “He just does it in the fourth quarter. He’s done it all year, I’ll give us some credit for starting him in the fourth because that’s not normally his rotation. We just felt like we needed him, then we couldn’t take him out because he was playing so well.”
Division Champions
Also, during the Cavs’ 15th straight win, they clinched the Central Division title for the first time since 2018. Head coach Kenny Atkinson praised his team for securing the title.
“Division champions is pretty cool,” Atkinson said. “I know us old-school guys, we like that.”
Despite becoming division champs for the first time in seven years, the Cavs are far from done. They own the best record in the association at 55-10 with 17 games remaining. Cleveland is on pace to secure the one seed in the Eastern Conference and clinch home-court advantage in the playoffs, including the NBA Finals. The Cavs’ magic number to clinch the first overall seed in the East is 10 games.

Are The Cavs Contenders?
It seems regardless of the records and winning streaks the Cavs keep offering they are still viewed as underdogs. Despite leading the current champs the Boston Celtics by eight games in the East, Boston is favored to win the conference. So are the Cavs contenders?
Of course and they should be the favorites. Cleveland is creeping up on a remarkable 70-win season, becoming the third team to ever do so. The other two? The ’95-96 Bulls, led by Michael Jordan, and the ’15-16 Warriors, led by Steph Curry. While those teams are two of the greatest ever, Cleveland matches up with them in most ways. To consider the Cavs as lowly underdogs, bashing their previous performances in the playoffs is not a good analysis of this team.
The Cavs are deep, have stars, and, most importantly, they can win in a variety of ways. Kenny Atkinson has changed this team around in a hurry and should be the front-runner for Coach of the Year. Mitchell will make his way onto many MVP ballots. Jerome and Hunter will likely have a say in the Sixth Man of the Year race. Garland could also be the Clutch Player of the Year. The Cavs have it all and they are hungry to win Cleveland their second-ever title.
