Cavs attended former All-Star’s showcase workout

The Cavaliers could be eying Victor Oladipo for one of their final roster spots.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have two roster spots remaining. They can only add players on league-minimum contracts to fill those openings due to being a second-apron team. One of the players that they could target for one of those openings is former two-time All-Star Victor Oladipo.

According to Chris Fedor of cleveland.com, the Cavs were one of the teams in attendance for Oladipo’s workout. He’s attempting a comeback to the NBA after missing the last two seasons after tearing his left patellar tendon in the 2023 playoffs.

Oladipo was one of the best shooting guards in the league for a brief stretch from 2017-19. Unfortunately, not being able to stay on the court has prevented him from truly reaching his potential as a player.

Oladipo has played in less than half of his team’s games all but once since the 2017-18 season. The 42 games he appeared in with the Miami Heat in 2022-23 are the most he’s played in during that stretch.

Despite the injuries, Oladipo was a solid bench player the last time we saw him on the court with the Miami Heat in 2022-23. He averaged 10.7 points, 3.5 assists, and 3 rebounds on .397/.330/.747 shooting splits in 26.3 minutes per contest.

The Cavs likely aren’t going to get a high-impact player with one of their last roster spots considering they can only offer a minimum contract. Other players in that tier are the likes of Kevin Love, Ben Simmons, and other veterans who are far removed from their peak season.

We’ll see what direction the front office takes with filling out the final few spots. If recent seasons are any indicator, it’s likely the Cavs break training camp with 14 roster slots filled so that they could add one more player at or after the trade deadline.
