Well, it’s not your typical re-signing. After all, Larry Nance Jr. did depart Cleveland in 2021 and played with the likes of Portland, New Orleans and Atlanta. However, news has broken that Nance Jr. is back in Cleveland after signing once again with The Land.
Nance is coming off a two-year, $21.5 million deal and now he’ll be on the Cavs on a year contract. (No word on the amount for the signing $$$-wise).
The 6’8″ Lance. Jr. is 32 years old and averages 8.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists. He was certainly a fan favorite during his four years in Cleveland (2017-21). He serves as more of a role player but can provide when needed amongst a team looking to contend like the Cavs are currently.
Nance Jr. has been in the league since 2015 and definitely has the experience required to help. It’s just a matter of whether he still has the capabilities from an endurance and strength aspect that comes as every player ages. As for this year, the belief is that he’ll still have it all.
Nance Jr. gives Cleveland some depth in the frontcourt with centers Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley. The Cavs have now added Lonzo Ball and Nance while keeping guard Sam Merrill this summer.
Certainly, it’ll be interesting to see just how much of a contribution Lance Jr. makes on this Cavs team for the upcoming season and potentially beyond. Let’s have some good times like we did in those past years when he was a member of the Cavs!
While Nance Jr. wasn’t on the 2016 team that won the NBA Championship, he does bring back those memories of the times with LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and company in those exciting years of basketball we all witnessed.
