Nembhard joins Isaiah Mobley as Cleveland’s two-way players.

R.J. Nembhard, per a release from the Cleveland Cavaliers, has signed a two-way contract with the team.

Nembhard, a 6’5”, 23-year-old wing who played at TCU in college, was also on a two-way deal with Cleveland last year and spent most the year with the Cleveland Charge in the G League. He went undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft before signing with Cleveland.

In the G League last year, Nembhard appeared in 15 games, averaging 24.5 points. 8.1 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game. He shot 44.6% from the field and 32.1% from three on 5.2 attempts per game. He appeared in 14 games with the Cavs, averaging 1.1 points and 0.9 assists per game in 4.5 minutes per game. With a 6’5” frame with 6’9.5” wingspan and a 200-pound frame, Nembhard has the frame to be a workable NBA wing. The key will be his three-point shot. Perhaps this year he will spend more time in the G League after the Cavs drafted Ochai Agbaji in the first round and, theoretically, have more wing depth.

Nembhard fills the Cavs’ second two-way slot with rookie center Isaiah Mobley filling the other slot. Both players can play a maximum of 50 NBA games this year based on the NBA’s rules and otherwise will be in the G League. Both Nembard and Mobley are on the Cavs’ Las Vegas Summer League roster, as are Agbaji, second-round pick Luke Travers and Charge standout forward Cam Young.
