Cavs believe in the 49th pick.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have given the 49th pick in this year’s NBA draft a multi-year contract, worth $8.9 million across four years. Tyrese Proctor is expected to be a long-term developmental piece of this team.

Proctor played three years at Duke University before declaring for the NBA Draft in his Junior year. He will be on Cleveland’s 2025 Las Vegas Summer League roster, with games beginning on July 10.
The Cavs selected Proctor because of his three-point shooting and on-ball creation. He averaged 12.4 points on above 40% three-point shooting last season. That’s a skill that’s even more valuable when paired with his 6’6” frame and defensive prowess at the point guard position.
Proctor was a plus defender in college. While there are concerns about his athleticism translating to the pros — he has a strong foundation that many experts considered would have made him a first round talent. The Cavs could have pulled off a steal by getting Proctor at 49th.
Only time will tell. Either way, the Cavaliers have committed to finding out the answer. Guaranteed NBA money for a late second round pick is rare. That’s partly why Proctor fell to the Cavs in the first place — with reports suggesting that Proctor’s team wanted to find a standard contract rather than a two-way deal. This could be a mutually beneficial pairing if Proctor develops into a rotational player.
Cleveland would gladly take some depth at point guard. Especially, if Proctor blossoms into the three-point shooting, defensive ballhawk he has the potential to become.
