Cleveland State alum puts on a show in huge Cavs Summer League victory

Tristan Enaruna was a standout.

The Cleveland Cavaliers (or more specifically, Tristan Enaruna) nearly turned Las Vegas Summer League into a full-blown dunk contest. The Cleveland State University alumni put on a show of breathtaking dunks as the Cavs routed Miami 92-72 in their third game of the Summer.

Enaruna played two seasons with Cleveland State after previous stints with Iowa State and Kansas State. He averaged a career-high 19.9 points in his Senior year with the Vikings. His athleticism has made him a standout in Vegas.

The Cavs built a lofty lead in the third quarter. Largely due to Tyson rattling off a huge scoring run all on his own. As a result — the runway cleared for Enaruna to steal the spotlight. He threw down a number of highlight dunks as the game neared garbage time.

Enaruna has ground to cover as a prospect. He isn’t a very good three-point shooter and he doesn’t wow you in any particular category, aside from athleticism. But tonight — that was enough for 18 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. If he keeps it up, Enaruna could make a run for Cleveland’s final two-way slot.

Did we mention Tyson went on a scoring run? He scored seven unanswered points early in the third quarter to spark a huge Cavalier lead. His confidence was bursting at the seams as Tyson flowed into multiple three-point shots in the second half. The sophomore prospect finished with 21 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and a block.

All signs point towards Tyson being too good for the Summer League. This was the case last year, as well, when Tyson showed similar dominance. But this time it feels more polished. It’s possible he’ll play a larger role with the Cavs this season.

Nae’Qwan Tomlin and Tyrese Proctor were quiet tonight. Tomlin had just 11 points on 4-10 shooting while Proctor struggled a bit more, going 3-13 from the floor. There’s not much to learn here. Both players had a poor shooting night; it’s bound to happen.

Cleveland plays its fourth game of the Summer League on Wednesday. After that, they’ll begin the tournament games.
