After earning an All-Star nod for the first time in his still nascent NBA career, Cleveland Cavaliers guard Darius Garland has turned his attention this offseason to getting even better. The Cavs made loud noises in the 2021-22 NBA season, which caught many by surprise — especially when they played so well they nearly made it to the NBA Playoffs, missing it only by the skin of their teeth. The Cavs are hoping that they will finally make that leap this coming 2022-23 NBA season, with Darius Garland following up his previous season’s exploits with an even bigger campaign.
Last season, Garland paced the Cavs with 21.7 points per game on 46.2 percent shooting from the field. He also shot 38.3 percent from behind the arc, dropped a team-best 8.6 dimes per contest, and recorded another team-high 1.3 steals per outing. He basically did it all for the Cavs, who finished ninth in the Eastern Conference standings with a 44-38 record. Garland and the Cavs lost in both their chances to get to the NBA postseason via the Play-in Tournament route, but that’s now behind them.
The Cavs picked up their 2022-23 club option on Darius Garland which is worth $8.9 million — a bargain when considering the value he has brought to the team with his excellent play on the court. However, the Cavs made sure to give him a fat extension deal, signing him to a five-year deal worth $192.85 million that kicks off the season after the 2022-23 campaign.
