With the Cavaliers’ season over, attention shifts to Donovan Mitchell’s future in Cleveland.
Mitchell just finished his second campaign with the Cavs, which ended with the All-Star guard missing the final two games of the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Boston Celtics due to injury.
There have been questions about whether Mitchell wants to remain with Cleveland, including a report today that claimed he “grew frustrated with some teammates’ lack of maturity, focus, playoff-level readiness and a willingness to listen.”
For what it’s worth, Mitchell denied that was true, and ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said the 27-year-old told him personally that he’s happy with the Cavs.
“I reached out to Donovan Mitchell today, and he was emphatic in telling me that he is not disgruntled with anyone or anything in Cleveland,” Wojnarowski said. “In fact, he said to me, ‘I am happy in Cleveland. I’ve been happy since I arrived in Cleveland.'”
Of course, Wojnarowski added, while Mitchell and the Cavs did improve this season, winning the franchise’s first postseason series in six years, there is a question about how much higher they can climb, if at all.
Should Mitchell feel he could accomplish more elsewhere, the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets are just two of the teams that would pursue the five-time All-Star, per ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.
Mitchell averaged 26.6 points and 6.1 assists per game this season.
