Why Did Iman Shumpert and Teyana Taylor Get a Divorce?

Iman and Teyana were married for almost a decade. They began their married life in 2016. When Teyana filed for a divorce, she cited his jealousy and insecurity surrounding her fame. Iman had a successful NBA career, but after he retired, he struggled with feelings of inadequacy. There were reports that he felt overshadowed by Teyana’s rising stardom in the entertainment industry. When she filed for a divorce, she claimed that she felt increasingly manipulated and controlled, which took a toll on her mental well-being.

Born in December 1990, Teyana is an American singer, songwriter, model, actress, dancer, choreographer, and music video director. She became famous after choreographing the video for Beyonce’s single Ring the Alarm in 2006. In 2008, she released her debut single, Google Me.

Teyana and Iman have two daughters, Iman Tayla Junie Shumpert Jr. born in 2015, and Rue Rose Shumpert, born in 2020. Their first daughter was delivered at their home when Taylor unexpectedly went into labor. Before the divorce, the pair had a joint net worth of around $35 million.

Iman Shumpert’s Basketball Career

Shumpert has played for five teams during his NBA career. He began his NBA journey with the New York Knicks, who drafted him with the 17th overall pick. Shump played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Sacramento Kings, Houston Rockets, and Brooklyn Nets. His biggest success came in 2016 when he and the Cavs came back from a 3-1 deficit to win the title against the Golden State Warriors.

He has earned $48 million throughout his career. Most of the earnings came thanks to the four-year, $40 million contract he signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Iman spent 10 years in the league, posting career averages of 7.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 3.3 assists on 39% shooting from the floor.
