G-Leaguer Who Starred During 2025 Summer League Play Reportedly Has At Least One Suitor

July 20, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Basketball

Former Utah Jazz two-way holder David Jones-Garcia could be heading overseas after having an outstanding NBA Summer League campaign.  According to Greek reporter Tolis Kotzis, via  Sportando,  Olympiacos is discussing a deal with Jones-Garcia.

Jones-Garcia, who concluded the 2024-25 season with the G-League Mexico City Capitaines, starred for the San Antonio Spurs this summer. The 6-5 wing scored in double-figures in all seven of his Summer League appearances for the Spurs, who partook in the California Classic and Las Vegas Summer League. Selected to the 2025 California Classic All-Tournament teams, Jones averaged 21.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.4 steals. He also drained 3.1 threes with shooting splits of 51.5/48.9/86.9.

Jones-Garcia went undrafted in 2024 after finishing his collegiate career with a huge season at Memphis. Before landing with the Tigers, the 2024 All-AAC First Team performer spent one season at St. John’s and two years at DePaul.

Despite not being selected in the 2024 draft, the Dominican Republic national signed a two-way contract with Philadelphia shortly after producing a solid summer league campaign with the 76ers. The 76ers released him prior to training camp last season.

About a month into the 2024-25 season, Jones-Garcia signed a two-way deal with the Jazz. While Jones didn’t appear in an NBA game, he thrived in the G League with Salt Lake City and Mexico City. The G-League All-Rookie first team selection produced 21.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.3 steals. He knocked down 1.8 treys a game while shooting 48/34.9/87.9.

While Olympiacos will probably offer Jones-Garcia more money than he would receive on a two-way deal, it is a surprise that an NBA team hasn’t already signed him. The athletic 23-year-old boasts an outstanding physique and a smooth left-handed shooting stroke.

Jones-Garcia can do a little bit of everything, but putting the ball in the basket is his best attribute, though he does need to improve his 3-point shooting. Jones-Garcia produced eight double-doubles, one triple-double, and topped the 40-point mark in 44 G-League contests this past season.

“He is a phenomenal player,” Spurs Summer League coach Mike Noyes told Tom Orsborn of The San Antonio Express-News. “He belongs on an NBA court.”

Jones-Garcia has a young core, similar to those of Brooklyn, Detroit, Phoenix, San Antonio, Portland, and Utah. He would also be a good end-of-the-bench option for Boston, New York, Cleveland, Golden State, Los Angeles Clippers, Sacramento, Houston, or Denver. The previously mentioned teams, along with Indiana, Miami, Orlando, Dallas, New Orleans, Memphis, and Oklahoma City, have an open two-way spot.

Olympiacos

Olympiacos is one of the most successful teams in Greece and the EuroLeague.  They have claimed 15 Greek titles and three EuroLeague championships.

Olympiacos finished first during the 2024-25 EuroLeague regular season, marking its second consecutive first-place finish in three seasons. But the Reds were upset in the Final Four by Monaco. However, they bounced back to win third place, 97-93, over Panathinaikos AKTOR.

Former Sacramento Kings forward Sasha Vezenkov and former 12-year NBA veteran Evan Fournier lead the way for Olympiacos. Thomas Walkup and 2015 NBA first-round selection Nikola Milutinov are among the top players for the organization. Additionally, the Reds have added Kostas Antetokounmpo and Donta Hall, who have already appeared in 22 NBA contests this offseason.
